WWE Issues Statement Regarding Third Party Bans

WWE Issues Statement Regarding Third Party Bans

September 5, 2020 0 By Tim Jarrell

WWE says they want company-wide deals, not individual deals.

Yesterday news came out that WWE is trying to ban their talent from engaging with third party brands like Camero and Twitch. WWE wants Talent to cut out doing content on those platforms by October 2nd. It has basically been perceived that WWE wants to be able to regulate talent and the content they are creating and if it is not being done under the WWE umbrella they can not do that.

When the news first came out WWE was very quiet on the situation, yet Saturday WWE issues the following statement on the matter,

“Much like Disney and Warner Bros., WWE creates, promotes and invests in its intellectual property, i.e. the stage names of performers like The Fiend Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, Big E and Braun Strowman. It is the control and exploitation of these characters that allows WWE to drive revenue, which in turn enables the company to compensate performers at the highest levels in the sports entertainment industry. Notwithstanding the contractual language, it is imperative for the success of our company to protect our greatest assets and establish partnerships with third parties on a companywide basis, rather than at the individual level, which as a result will provide more value for all involved.”

From this statement it makes one believe that if they are using their WWE name that is where the issue is, yet it is still unclear if talent uses their real or other names if that will be alright. Many already don’t use their WWE names on Twitch like Xavier Woods goes by Austin Creed, Adam Cole goes by Chugs, Cesaro goes by Claudio, and more.

We will continue to follow this developing story and if we hear anything else on the matter, we will have it here and on the PWUnlimited YouTube Channel.
