Three Teams Advance In The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Tournament, Next Week’s Matches Announced

The 2021 Dusty Classic is officially underway.

Tonight NXT kicked off the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic with three first-round matches. All outcomes were highly predictable and we even saw the debut of a new tag team in NXT.

The first match we go was Ever-Rise against the Grizzled Young Veterans. The match saw Ever-Rise get a little offense but mainly James Drake and Zach Gibson dominate on their way to victory. The Grizzled Young Veterans move on to the second round to take on the winners of the match between Kushida & Leon Ruff versus Johnny Gargano & Austin Theory.

The second match we got tonight saw the debut of MSK. This new team was made up of the former Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz. They would take on the team of Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Jake Atlas. MSK would pull out the victory in their first match in NXT. They will move on to take on the winners of the match between Drake Maverick & Killian Dain versus Curt Stallion and August Grey.

The third Dusty Classic match was the main event of tonight’s show. The match saw the Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole and Roderick Strong take on Breezango. This was a fun back-and-forth that did see Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan, and Danny Burch come down and attack Kyle O’Reilly at ringside. This would distract everyone in the match before Adam Cole would pick up the victory for his team. Cole and Strong will now move on to take on the winners of the match between Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari versus Ashantee “Thee” Adonis & Desmond Troy.

Next week two matches were announced as Lucha House Party versus Imperium as well as Kushida and Leon Ruff taking on Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory.
