Tampa Officials To Discuss Canceling Major City Events, Could Affect WrestleMania

WrestleMania in early April could be affected and changed.

With Coronavirus disease cases growing all around the world the growing concern of a large number of people’s being together in one place is becoming more and more of an issue for many. Many countries and cities have stopped all activities with large groups from happening. The city of Austin in Texas is now prohibiting events with over 2500 people until at least May.

The city of Tampa has two known cases of the disease and it now looks like city officials will be meeting later this week to determine if they will prohibit all large gatherings and events from taking place in the city as well.

According to local Tampa news reporter Ryan Bass of WTSP10 CBS Tampa, he reports that officials will meet on Thursday to discuss canceling or postponing major events.

With WrestleMania 36 taking place on April 5th in Tampa, if officials decide to not allow events with a big crowd to take place this will greatly affect WWE. We have seen some rumors going around speculating that WWE could just move WrestleMania and hold it in another city but it is not that simple.

Cities bid to bring WrestleMania to their city every year and Tampa has most likely already paid WWE to host WrestleMania. If WrestleMania can not run in Tampa on April 5th, they are not just gonna move it to Atlanta for example. WWE would have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get everything that was slated to be sent to Tampa now sent to Atlanta spending more money than they expected. Plus if they don’t run in Tampa then the city is going to want their money back.

The one scenario that makes the most sense, if this temporary ban of large events does go into action, then just pushing WrestleMania back to another date in the near future. Yes if this happens it would not be good for all the fans who have already purchased airline tickets and booked hotels for that week, but if it is out of WWE’s hands then there is nothing they can do about it.

If it was up top WWE the event would go on as scheduled no if and or buts. Yet in this case, there is a real possibility that it will be out of WWE’s hands and they will be forced to shift plans.

Again this reported meeting is slated to take place later this week on Thursday and if we do hear anything further of what may come of it we will keep you updated.
