AEW Confirms Rankings Reset Every Year

Ranking in AEW will refresh each year.

When All Elite Wrestling was first announced one of the big things they pushed was the importance of wins and losses and a ranking system. 10 Months after they started once they were running weekly TV on TNT they introduced the official AEW rankings for the Tag Team, Women’s and Men’s Single division. Now keeping the ranking nice and tight and still keeping planned storylines in place is ok to do after 12 weeks, but it’s not so easy after 50 or 52 weeks.

Many have wondered if once we get many and many weeks in if AEW can keep the ranking and the storylines cohesive and not sacrifice one for the other. What if you want to quickly shift a storyline with a champion but the person you have in mind for the challenger does not fit in because he is to low in the rankings. One way to do that is to reset the rankings periodically after a period of time.

Today AEW confirmed that the rankings will officially reset every year on January 1st. They stated that,

New 2020 annual records will begin on the AEW Dynamite this Wednesday, January 1.

Career AEW records will be cumulative, and the annual records will reset each calendar year. The annual records will be increasingly important in the rankings as the new calendar year continues.

At this time it is not known if the career records will mean anything overall but it looks like the annual records will be the ones used to determined challengers and number one contenders in the company. Also before you ask, with the rankings resetting that does not mean Cody’s stipulation of not being able to challenge for the title resets as well, he’s still SOL.
