Other jobs prevented Daniel Cormier from WWE role.

It was reported back when the Smackdown to FOX news came out that FOX was interested in getting UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier to work with them and WWE in some role. The first news that came out was that they wanted him on commentary for Smackdown. We had also heard that there was interest in him being a host on the WWE Backstage show on FS1.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer reports that Cormier did have a tryout for a Smackdown commentary role but it did not end with him getting the role. Meltzer also goes on to report that he was offered a regular spot on the FS1 WWE Backstage show. He was unable to take the job because he is under contract with ESPN for UFC. The feeling is that if he would have accepted he would have been in the role Booker T ended up getting.

Meltzer also goes on to state that WWE wanted him to back in Las Vegas back in October for the press conference where they set up the Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez match for WWE Crown Jewel. WWE felt Cormier’s presence would have been a big deal since he and Lesnar teased a match in UFC and Cormier and Velasquez are best friends. Cormier was unable to do it due to a scheduling conflict.
