Universal Title Match Set For The Royal Rumble

Universal Title Match Set For The Royal Rumble

January 9, 2021 0 By Tim Jarrell

Roman Reigns’ next challenger is set… by him.

Last night on Friday Night Smackdown the main event was a gauntlet match with the winner earning a title shot at the Universal Title at the Royal Rumble. The match went as planned, well until the end when Reigns and Jey Uso had their way with things.

The match started off with Rey Mysterio eliminating Sami Zayn in under 90 seconds or so. Out next would be Shinsuke Nakamura and he would run the gambit. Not only would he eliminate Mysterio, but he would also make it to the finals after eliminating both King Corbin and Daniel Bryan as well.

The finals of the match would come down to Shinsuke Nakamura and Adam Pearce. The Universal Champion Roman Reigns, his cousin Jey Uso and the special counsel Paul Heyman would all come out to ringside followed by Pearce. Pearce as hesitant to get into the ring and then Jey Uso ran in and hit Nakamura with a Superkick. Reigns would then give Nakamura a Superman Puch before Uso hit him with a splash off the top rope.

reigns and Uso would then take out Pearce before laying him on top of Nakamura and telling the referee to count. The match would end with Pearce technically declared the winner and getting the title shot at Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble.

The feeling is that this will not end up with Pearce actually facing Reigns and possibly end up Owens once again facing Roman Reigns. If that is the case this would not be the first Universal Title Match at a Royal Rumble event between Reigns and Owens. Back in 2017, Owens was the Universal Champion on RAW and Reigns challenged him for the title with Chris Jericho suspended above the ring in a shark cage.

So far this is the first match other than the two Royal Rumble matches that have been officially announced. If we hear anything else about the Royal Rumble, we will have it here and on the PWUnlimited YouTube Channel.
