King Of Indie’s Tournament Returning This November

Who is the KIng of Indies?

One of the most influential moments in pro wrestling in the 2000s was in the first round of the 2001 King of Indies tournament. Bryan Danielson was taking on Spanky and after seeing that match, it gave Gabe Sapolsky the idea to start a new company with talent as he saw in this match and others in the tournament, and Ring of Honor was born. Christopher Daniels won the first tournament one year prior and would be eliminated in the third round in year two losing to Low Ki. Low Ki would go on to be defeated by Danielson in the finals. Many in that tournament ended up in Ring of Honor like Danielson, Daniels, Low Ki, Adam Pearce, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and others.

After the first two years, the tournament actually went away until APW brought it back in 2015. That year saw the likes of Brian Cage, Jeff Cobb, Willie Mack, Timothy Thatcher, Adam Thornstowe, and others with Thornstowe winning it all. That year also saw APW run the tournament in collaboration with Pro Wrestling Revolution. The tournament would then return for two years in 2018 and 2019 with Dragon Leee winning both years. The tournament has been dormant ever since possibly due to the pandemic but ladies and gentlemen, King of Indies is back.

It was announced today that Pro Wrestling Revolution and West Coast Pro Wrestling are coming together for the 2022 King of Indies tournament. The tournament will be taking place on November 19th in San Fransisco.

As of right now, no names have been announced for the upcoming tournament as it is six months away. The announcement from West Coast Pro Wrestling did note that more info will be coming soon.
