Mike Jones, known to many as Virgil, has passed away at the age of 61.

Wednesday word came out that former WWE and WCW star Mike Jones has passed away. The news was first announced by referee Mark Charles III who stated that Jones passed away peacefully this morning at a hospital.

Jones was best known for his run in WWF as Virgil, the bodyguard of Ted Dibiase in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His biggest moment came at the 1991 SummerSlam event when he was able to pin and defeat Dibiase to become the Million Dollar Champion. Rumors are that his name was actually a rib on Dusty Rhodes, whose real name was Virgil.

Jones was also known as Vincent in WCW when he joined the company in 1996 and was a member of the NWO. Yet before joining either WWE or WCW, he was known as “Soul Train” Jones and at one time held the AWA Southern Tag Team Championships with Rocky Johnson.

PWUnlimited would like to send out our deepest condolences to all of Jones’ family, friends, and fans.
