BREAKING NEWS: Samoa Joe Relinquishes The NXT Championship Due To Injury
September 12, 2021Another setback for the three-time NXT Champion.
Back in February of 2020 Samoa Joe was coming off of an injury and returned to the ring. Now long after he was injured yet again suffered a concussion at a commercial shoot for Monday Night RAW. For the next year, Joe worked commentary on RAW till WrestleMania this past April. Joe was then released by the company only to be brought back a few months later by Triple H on the NXT brand. Joe would go on to defeat Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship becoming the only three-time NXT Champion. Yet that title reign has come to an end.
Samoa Joe himself revealed on Sunday evening that he has suffered an injury and due to that he must relinquish the championship. Joe stated that WWE medical has asked him to take a brief, but yet undetermined amount of time. He said that with NXT going into a new era this week, the brand deserves a champion who can be there and fight for the title and because he can not do that right now that is why he is dropping the title.

It is unknown what WWE will do now with the NXT Championship vacated yet again for the second time in the last year. Tuesday on NXT there is set to be a four-way match to determine the next challenger for the NXT Championship. The most obvious thing to do is to end up making that match now a match for the vacant title. Again WWE has not announced what the plan will be to crown a new champion.
