AEW Fires Commentator After Racist Incident During Dynamite

On Spanish commentator is gone from AEW.

Last night during AEW Dynamite we saw Hikaru Shida celebrated for being the Women’s World Champion for over a year. Before the segment when the show went to commercial, the Spanish commentators did not know their microphones were still on for the FITE TV feed and their conversation was heard. One was heard making fun of how Shida speaks.

Alex Abrahantes asked Willie Urbina to do translation for Shida’s promo, this is when he started to mock Shida with an Asian accent. This was heard on the feed and you can also hear Abrahantes and Thunder Rosa laugh about it. You can also hear Dasha Kuret comment on the moment as well. The clip of this circulated on social media and gained steam over night.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Meltzer reported that Urbina had been let go by AEW. Nothing else was noted about if any action would be taken on the other three who were on commentary as well. From what we told, no action is expected regarding Abrahantes, Rosa, or Kuret.
