WWE Reportedly Signs Popular Indie Wrestler
January 7, 2020WWE finally signs a former Mae Young Classic competitor.
According to a report from SoCalUncensored, WWE has reportedly signed popular indie wrestler Mercedes Martinez. It is said that the 39-year old is set to report to the WWE Performance Center next month.
Many say that Martinez is one of if not the top women’s wrestler not signed to a major promotion. As of right now, Martinez is the AWS Heavyweight Champion and SoCalUncensored was told with Martinez’s signing they will likely hold a tournament to crown a new champion.
Mercedez Martinez has worked a number of matches over the years for WWE most notably in the Mae Young Classic tournament and in NXT. Martinez also worked a few matches in 2019 for All Elite Wrestling. Ever since the first-ever Mae Young Classic fans have clamored for WWE to sign Martinez and it seems as if they finally have. In 2019 Sports Illustrated placed Martinez on their top women’s wrestlers of 2019 list.
Again Martinez is set to report to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando and it is unclear how long after that it will be before she makes her full-time debut on television for the company.
