WWE Reportedly In Talks With ESPN To Have Content On ESPN+

WWE could he following in the footsteps of UFC.

A few weeks back Vince McMahon hinted that pay-per-view content, at least some of it, could be moving off the WWE Network and going to another major streaming service. At the time McMahon did not give any clues as to what services they may be in talks with but did indicate that he would like to announce a partnership sometime in Q1 2020. Q1 ends at the end of March.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer reports that WWE has been in talks with ESPN about adding some of their content to the ESPN+ service. No details on the talks and how far along the talks actually are was given.

If WWE was to add content like WrestleMania to ESPN+ and move the live stream off of the WWE Network, it is unknown if it will just be bundled into the $4.99 ESPN+ price or at an additional price as well. With UFC on ESPN+, you have to pay the $4.99 to have the service, but then you have to pay an additional $64.99 per pay-per-view that is placed behind the paywall. As of right now, and it has been this way since 2014, all WWE pay-per-views are included in the $9.99 WWE Network monthly subscription price.

So this could either be better for WWE fans or worse. It could be better because if there is no additional charge then essentially any pay-per-view on ESPN+ would be cheaper than they are on the WWE Network. It could be bad if they add the additional charge because they could be upwards of 75% more expensive than what we are used to now.

If we do hear any additional details on WWE and their talks with ESPN, we will keep you updated.
