WWE Gives Former Champions New Names

For tag champs had their names changed.

Recently we have seen a number of wrestlers in WWE get their names changed. In the past, WWE used to just take your first or last name away. For example, Antontonio Cesaro became Cesaro, Alexander Rusev became just Ruzev and most recently we have seen Austin Theory become just Theory. Recently in NXT we also see Kay lee Ray become Alba Fire and now we know of more NXT Superstars getting news names.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Johnson reports that former NXT and NXT UK Tag Team Champions The Grizzled Young Veterans have been given new names. Going forward, James Drake will be going by the name Jagger Reid. His partner Zack Gibson will now be going by the name Rip Fowler.

These name changes and others this year have really come since WrestleMania after WWE put in a new edict that they do not want anyone using a name that they have used prior to signing with WWE or that they could use after your time with WWE.
