WWE Changes Their Scouting & Hiring Process
August 27, 2021Keep the indie guys to AEW.
We have heard over the past several weeks that many changes were coming to NXT and WWE’s developmental system. NXT will be getting a makeover and WWE will be changing what they look for in talent. Now we have a little more clarification as to what they are actually looking for when scouting talent.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Meltzer reported that word from the top in WWE is that there is no more independent talent as far as scouting and such. It was stated that “AEW can have all the independent talent to themself.”
When you look at WWE’s tryout last week in Las Vegas ahead of SummerSlam they brought in and potentially signed a number of models, cheerleaders, football, and basketball players. There was one Florida-based independent wrestler that had been trained by The Dudley Boyz who was offered a deal. As far as the others that Meltzer says he knows about most if any had no pro wrestling experience. Meltzer also stated from what he heard all men offered a deal were over six feet and most of good size.
It will be interesting to see how WWE takes these people with little to no wrestling experience and trains them to do so. WWE has taken a few like this and turned them into good to great pro wrestlers like Charlotte Flair and Roman Reigns for example. Yet most that they brought in based on looks and athletic ability did seemingly fizzle out and not make in WWE.
If we do hear anything else on WWE’s new directive of no more indie guys being scouted, we will have it here and on the PWUnlimited YouTube Channel.
