Update To AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament

Update To AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament

October 21, 2020 2 By Tim Jarrell

The first round has concluded in the World Title Tournament.

Tonight AEW kicked off their World Title Eliminator Tournament with four round one matches. Next week round two will take place with the finals taking place at Full Gear on November 7th.

The match of the night Wardlow defeat Jungle Boy. The match started off a little like a back and forth contest but really it was all about getting Wardlow over as a threat in the tournament.

We then saw Kenny Omega come out with a new attitude. We also saw another tease of the return of Th Cleaner but the match, if you can call it that was short-lived when Omega defeated Sonny Kiss in no more than 15 seconds bell to bell. Sonny Kiss was in the match as a replacement to Joey Janela who had to be pulled from tonight’s show due to COVID concerns.

We then saw an amazing match between the brother Pentagon and Fenix. In the end, it was compassion for his younger brother that cost Pentagon the match. Pentagon did not show enough aggression towards the end of the match and at one was allowing his brother to get to his feet when Fenix hit him with a destroyer and pined him to advance in the tournament.

Finally, we had the match between Hangman Page and Colt Cabana. We saw a good back and forth contest between the two that saw the younger Page pick up the win and advance to the next round.

Next week the second-round matches take place. We will see two matches with Kenny Omega taking on Rey Fenix and Hangman Page taking on Wardlow.

Next week’s AEW Dynamite will also see Tay Conti take on Abadon and Cody defend the TNT Title against Orange Cassidy. For more on this week’s show, check out our AEW Dynamite review.
