Tampa Officials Waiting For WWE To Cancel WrestleMania, Says They Are Ready To Pull The Plug

As of right now WrestleMania is not canceled but will likely be in a week.

With every major sporting event around the world canceled or postponed the world looks WWE and what they will do with WrestleMania. As of Friday, the plan was still in Tampa on April 5th. What it would look like was unknown but it less likely now.

Thursday Hillborough Country officials stated that at the time they were not going to force WWE to cancel WrestleMania in Tampa but had to meet on the matter seven days later to discuss the event further.

On Friday FOX 13 in Tampa aired a piece talking about WrestleMania and they talked to those county officials in attendance Thursday. Hillborough Commissioner Les Miller stated that he would like Vince McMahon to make the call but they may have to in a week.

“I’m hoping that Vince McMahon and WrestleMania and WWE make the call themselves, but a week from now, if they’ve not done that and we’re still in the situation we’re in, we’ll probably have to pull the plug on that.”

They also spoke with Hillborough Country Sherif Chad Chronister who stated every other sports franchise he looked at the safety of the decision and hope WWE follows suit.

“I commend every sports franchise for erring on the side of caution. I hope the WWE follows suit. I don’t ever want to see people put profit over public safety.”

During Friday’s Smackdown, the company continued to promote Wrestlemania as if nothing has changed and it was going on as scheduled.

It has been talked about that Vince McMahon holding out could have to do with the insurance they have on the event. If for some reason they are forced to cancel or postpone the event then the insurance claim purchased on WrestleMania would be able to be cashed out so they do not take as much of a hit on not running. Yet, if Vince McMahon was the one to make the call and it was not someone else forcing the event to not take place it is believed that in that case, they can not cash out on the insurance policy.

This next week for WWE will for sure be interesting and by this time next week, we will have a more solid idea of what will happen with WrestleMania. For now, all televised WWE shows will air from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. Will that also be the fate of WrestleMania?

WWE did state they have a contingency plan in place for if government officials, civil authorities and or local venues for them to change hands. From that statement alone it makes one believe that Vince McMahon is not wanting to be the one to make the call here.

If we do hear anything further on the status of WrestleMania we will keep you updated.
