SPOILER: Recently Released NXT Wrestler Works AEW Tapings
July 16, 2022AEW has bought in another former WWE Superstar.
One criticism fans have had regarding Tony Khan and AEW is how often they use former WWE wrestlers. Whether that is signing them to actual deals or bringing them in for Dark. The latter is what took place this weekend.
This weekend AEW was at Universal Studios in Flordia for their latest set of Dark tapings and former NXT wrestler Troy “Two Dimes” Donovan competed in the first set for tapings. He would go on to pick up a win against Mike Orlando on the show.
Now Cole Karter, the name he used at the taping, is no stranger to AEW though, Before signing with WWE he actually wrestled nine times for AEW in 2021. This weekend was the first time he actually won a match there.
Karter was released by WWE back in June for what was called a “policy issue” and believed to be for failing a drug test. Initially, the word was the WWE was upset they had to release him and told him maybe they could take a look at potentially bringing him back in after a year or so.
As of right now, it is not known if this is just a one-off for him and AEW or if there are plans for him to come in and work more matches for the company.
