Next week Smackdown is set for a throwback.

Tonight during Friday Night Smackdown WWE announced that next’s week’s Smackdown will be a special show. They announced that they are turning back the clock and it will be a throwback edition of Smackdown.

In the commercial shown the only wrestlers featured were The Miz, Bianca Belair, Big E, and Sasha Banks. Interesting to see RAW superstar The Miz in the commercial.

What people don’t know is that this is actually a call by FOX. Back in 2015, NASCAR turned the Darlington race into a throwback weekend where teams pay tribute to the past. All drivers run throwback paint schemes paying tribute to those who came before them. Since they started this the Xfinity and Cup Series races have always aired on NBC. This year after many races were moved around schedule-wise, FOX now gets the throwback races for the first time for the Xfinity & Monster Energy Cup series. Yes FOX has had the Truck Series throwback races in past years but this is the first weekend any network has all three throwback races. Now FOX is trying to extend that to other programming as well to do a full throwback weekend. It will kick off with both Smackdown and the Camping World Truck Series race both next Friday night.
