Possibility Of Tribute To The Troops Airing This Year
December 10, 2019Last Friday WWE held Tribute To The Troops, but we may never get to see it.
Tribute To The Troops started back in 2003 with WWE going overseas to run shows for the troops on deployment. The matches typically would air as a special edition of Smackdown. This format would go on until 2009. In 2010 WWE started running the show in the United States and the show was it’s own special and filmed more like a typical weekly WWE show. Since 2010 the show has aired on USA Network with the first four years also airing a condensed version on NBC but this year we may not see it at all.
According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, he reported that the show may not air on the USA Network this year. The reason it may not air could actually be USA passing on it.
“So they taped, I shouldn’t say taped, they did Tribute To The Troops Friday at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. It was not taped for television. There is no Tribute To The Troops television show this year. Nothing else, they sent people you know and did their thing. For whatever reason the USA Network didn’t want the show. I don’t have an answer. I mean it’s been on television for god knows how many years, it feels like forever. So I was really surprised when I heard that.”
If the show does not air this will be the first time that the Tribute To The Troops show does not air since 2010. It will be the first time matches filmed specifically for a show for the troops doesn’t air since 2003.
