New Title Match Announced For NXT TakeOver XXX, Updated Card
August 5, 2020Tonight the NXT Women’s Title match was set for TakeOver.
The opening contest of tonight’s NXT saw Rhea Ripley taking on Dakota Kai. The winner of this match would move on to NXT TakeOver XXX to challenge Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Title. Ripley has been trying to get the title back since losing it to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania. Kai attacked the champion a few weeks back on her pursuit to get a shot at the title as well.
The match tonight saw Ripley in control early but in the end, it was Marcedes Martinez who interfered by attacking Ripley. This allowed Kai to pick up the victory and earn herself a title shot at TakeOver on August 22nd. When the match was over, Ripley and Martinez kept fighting as Martinez would not stop her attack. It looks like Ripley and her issues with Robert Stone may not be over.
