New Details On Cody Rhodes Leaving AEW & Possible WWE Plans

Cody could be a big player in WWE if he signs.

Tuesday it was announced that Cody and Brandi Rhodes have left All Elite Wrestling. We heard a number of different reasons as to what could have led to this and we now have some more interesting details.

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Observer Radio, Meltzer stated that Cody leaving was not just about Cody not wanting to be there anymore, but that Tony Khan actually did not pick up the 2-year option in Cody’s contract. The rumors of this all being about money could still be true though. There could have been a clause that gave Cody an increase in pay and Khan did not want to pay that. There could have also been a deal where Tony did not pick up the option, the two sides talked, and could not agree on a new deal that was not the option.

As far as the possibility of Cody going to WWE, it looks like if he does they have plans to place him in a major role. According to Wade Keller of PWTorch, Keller stated that Vince McMahon has plans to put Cody in “a major match at WrestleMania.” As far as what that match could be is not known. One thing people have been throwing around is him facing Seth Rollins now that Seth is no longer in line to face Shane McMahon as proposed earlier this year.
