More On Edge’s New Deal With WWE, Did He Use AEW To Get More Money

Edge may have used AEW to get more money out of WWE.

This past weekend in the Royal Rumble we saw the return of Edge. He then appeared on Monday Night RAW the next night and now it looks like we have Edge back on our TVs for at least the next three years.

Over the last few days, we have learned a few things about Edge’s return to WWE. We learned that he signed a three-year, $9million contract to work five matches a year. We also learned that Edge had talks with All Elite Wrestling back in August where they offered him a really nice deal. Now it looks like Edge’s talks with AEW are what got him such a good deal from WWE.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer does report that AEW made Edge a major offer and he told WWE the offer was for $3 million per year. They wanted him to debut when they started on TNT and he would only work a few matches per year. Well in the end that is the exact deal Edge got from WWE. Edge is now reportedly signed to one of the highest paying deals in WWE history. Both Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg make more than that but really no one else can say right now they are making more than Edge.

This all dates back to last summer when AEW made Edge a major offer to wrestle a few matches per year. Edge used that offer, which he told WWE was for $3 million per year and he would start when the company got television as his leverage, to get the same deal with WWE.

Meltzer also states that the initial reports of Edge working five matches and making 25 appearances a year may not be correct. Meltzer states it may be more matches and more appearances. Regardless, Edge got a sweet deal from the WWE, will not have to be full-time on the road and can get back to what he loves doing.

As far as when Edge’s next match will be, that is unclear. It is rumored that he could work the SuperShowDown show next month in Saudi Arabia, but nothing has been hinted to just yet.
