Mickie James Clarifies What Happened With Odd Finish To RAW Title Match
September 18, 2020The match ended due to concern for Mickie’s safety.
This past Monday on RAW we saw Mickie James challenge Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship. At the end of the match, Asuka had James in the Asuka Lock and tried to roll out of the move. As James rolled over and onto her stomach, the referee all of a sudden called for the bell and the end of the match. This came as a shock to both women in the ring and the three men on commentary. Since then we have learned what may have actually happened and why the referee stopped the match.
Mickie James herself spoke with Alex McCarthy of TalkSPORT and stated that the referee abruptly ended that match after thinking she may have suffered a concussion.
“In that moment it’s very hard for them to tell whether you are hurt or not. It can’t just be his call either. It must have been whoever thought I was hurt. they’re just trying to protect me and keep me safe because concussions are a real thing. What we do as a sport is very dangerous. So if somebody gets a concussion, not only can they not wrestle the rest of that match, but they could possibly never wrestle again depending on how bad it is, same with football. So we have to be careful with that and I get it. It was unfortunate for me and stinky, but I’m fine. My nose hurts a little bit from that knee lift, I’ll be honest [laughs].”
Mickie James also talked about the finish of them catch on this week’s episode of The Bump and kinda made it seem as if she was screwed. We have since learned that the finish of the match was supposed to be Jam es tapping out to the Asuka Lock at the end of the match.
