Former World Champion ‘Parting Ways’ With WWE Over Close Trump Relationship

One WWE Hall of Famer is no longer tied to WWE.

Late Sunday night into Monday, word came out about the horrific death of actor/director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. Current President Donald Trump wrote a post online that was very negative towards Reiner and his political stance, that was honestly uncalled for. The post and Trump’s relationship with WWE have led to one former WWE World Champion no longer wanting to be associated with World Wrestling Entertainment.

On Tuesday, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley took to Instagram to announce that he is parting ways with WWE. He noted that he has been concerned with WWE’s close relationship with Donald Trump for several months. Yet “reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me,” Foley wrote as he informed WWE Monday night of his decision. Foley stated that while Trump is in office, he will not make any appearances for the company.

PARTING WAYS WITH WWE

While I have been concerned about WWE‘s close relationship with Donald Trump for several months — especially in light of his administration’s ongoing cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants (and pretty much anyone who “looks like an immigrant”) — reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me.

I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy. Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office.

Additionally, I will not be signing a new Legends deal when my current one expires in June. I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me. But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, “I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more.”

Now, Donald Trump to some, is more tied to the UFC, which is the sister company to WWE under TKO, as Trump attends shows multiple times a year. Yet current WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque is part of Trump’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition and has appeared with him multiple times this year at the White House.

Foley said he would not make appearances for the company as long as Trump is in office. So once Trump’s term as commander-in-chief is over, it will be interesting to see if Foley would be willing to work with WWE once again.
