𝙍𝙀𝙋𝙊𝙍𝙏: Former New Japan Wrestler & Recent Free Agent Headed To WWE
February 27, 2024It looks like a popular free agent is going to WWE.
2024 has already been a big year for free agent signing. A number of big names have before free agents looking for a new home. We know that Mercedes Mone and Will Ospreay are heading to All Elite Wrestling. It is also reported that Kazuchika Okada is expected to sign with AEW as well. Yet one former New Japan Pro Wrestling star who just finished up with the company last weekend is expected to sign with WWE.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, he reports that Tama Tonga is heading to WWE according to WWE sources confirming it Meltzer. The report really did not say much more about Tonga going to WWE. We have seen the company tease someone new coming to NXT so that could be the landing spot for Tama Tonga in WWE at first.
It is known that after spending almost 14 years with New Japan Pro Wrestling, Tama Tonga wanted to sign with a US-based wrestling company to not be away so much from his family. Tonga’s contract with New Japan was actually up this time last year but he agreed to sign a deal to stay one more year in Japan. Now it seems as if he is ready to move on. WWE being interested has been a thing since talks of him becoming a free agent started last year before he signed the one-year deal.
Tama Tonga has many ties to current WWE superstars Finn Balor, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, and AJ Styles. All were former members of Bullet Club, which Tonga was a founding member of with Finn Balor. Also even though not related by blood, Tama Tonga and his family are considered family to The Rock as Rock sees Tonga’s father Haku as an uncle. One would assume he would more likely work with the former Bullet Club guy over The Bloodline though in WWE.
If we do hear anything else on Tama Tonga heading to WWE and when we can expect to see him, we will have it here and on the PWUnlimited YouTube Channel.
