Domino’s Issues Statement After Commercial Airs Following Pizza Cutter Spot

Domino’s may not be sponsoring AEW in the future.

This past Wednesday, the main event of AEW Dynamite: Fight For The Fallen was a No Rules match between Chris Jericho and Nick Gage. In the match, we saw a Nick Gage staple where he takes a pizza cutter to the forehead of his opponent. The spot took place, Gage played it up to the crowd for a few seconds and then the show went to commercial. The first commercial that played is a Domino’s commercial. You can see it in the video below.

In a statement to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Domin’s denied this being a pre-placed spot and that they did not know this would happen ahead of time. Furthermore, they also stated that they are now considering whether or not they will continue allowing their commercials to air during Dynamite in the future.

Spokesperson Jenny Fouracre-Petko stated,

β€œWe share the concerns expressed about this incident and the content of this TV-14 rated program, and are assessing our advertising presence on it going forward.”

Interestingly since the match took place a number of people have asked online if a match like this airing on AEW television could turn off sponsors from the show. We do know per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, he reported that AEW officials went to TNT officials beforehand and got permission to air the match as it did and they were okay with it. If Domino’s does pull their commercials from Dynamite, this could impact what Time Warner allows AEW to do or show on TNT/TBS in the future.
