Current Champion Praised In WWE As A “Breakaway Star”

One champion is highly regarded backstage.

WWE has many champions, and in 202,5 fans and industry professionals alike have said IYO SKY may be the best in-ring wrestler in all of WWE. She is the current Women’s World Champion and picked up a huge win at WrestleMania. It looks like all the hard work is paying off for SKY.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, he wrote that “one person high up in decision making” in WWE has noted how IYO SKY is considered a “breakaway star” within the company. It was noted that the praise was not only for her work in the ring but for her promo skills as well. SKY is also considered someone that everyone in the women’s division loves working with.

“One person high up in decision making noted to us that Sky has been considered breakaway star this year, combining the fire and voice inflections that made Asuka a strong promo without speaking English and ‘her ridiculously great workrate, and everyone loves working with her, so no one has a problem making her shine, letting her shine, and designing a match for her to shine.”

SKY defeated Rhea Ripley earlier this year to win the Women’s World Title and successfully defended it at WrestleMania 41. As we have learned from a preview for WWE’s upcoming behind-the-scenes show on Netflix, the original plan for WrestleMania did not feature SKY in the title match at all. Yet it seems all her hard work has paid off, putting her atop of the division.
