Clarification On Multiple CM Punk Contract Rumors

Clarification On Multiple CM Punk Contract Rumors

July 25, 2024 Off By Tim Jarrell

Punk is not trying to get a “Bret Hart” deal.

Over the last day or two a few different rumors surfaced pertaining to CM Punk and his contract status with WWE. Some stated that he originally signed a short-term deal that is either up or about to be up and he approached WWE about a new one. Another was that he was trying to get a deal like Bret Hart did before he left for WCW that would basically keep him with the company forever. Now we have clarification on two of these.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, he reports that he has been getting a lot of messages about these rumors and reached out to a number of WWE sources about all of this. When it comes to the rumor that CM Punk signed a short-term deal with WWE and is not negotiating a new deal, that is not fully accurate. Johnson states that numerous WWE sources have confirmed that Punk signed a three-year deal with WWE on the day of Survivor Series when he returned. The deal would take him into November 2026. It could be longer if injury time is added.

When it comes to Punk pushing to re-negotiate his current deal to get a “Bret Hart” style deal to keep him with WWE forever, that also is not correct. Johnson reports that the two sides are discussing a new deal, yet it was WWE who approached Punk about this and not Punk trying to get himself a better deal. Multiple sources in WWE confirmed they are seeking to lock Punk into what was described as a “bigger” deal. It was said that the company is very happy with the business Punk is doing from TV ratings, social numbers, and merch sales. When asked why try re-work Punk’s deal if he is already locked in, one source noted, “New world.Β  Huge numbers.Β  Merch and socials.” Again this is not a case of Punk trying to get more out of WWE but WWE being so happy with Punk that they could want more from him.

Hopefully, this does clear things up for people who have heard the rumors over the last few days and there are no more questions needing to be asked. If we do hear anything else on WWE trying to possibly re-work Punk’s deal with the company, we will have it here.
