Cary Silkin Says Tony Khan Doesn’t Treats ROH Very Well
July 15, 2024Is ROH an afterthought to Tony Khan?
In late 2021 Sinclair Broadcasting announced that Ring of Honor was taking a hiatus and would come back in April of 2022. In that time frame, it was announced that All Elite Wrestling owner Tony Khan had purchased ROH and as we have seen since then it is somewhat running as it’s own thing at times but more just an extra part of AEW.
While on the Mat Memories from Madison Square Garden show, former Ring of Honor owner Cary Silkin talked about how Tony Khan is not treating the brand well. The hosts talked about ROH from the late 2000s with Silkin saying ROH really feels like an afterthought.
“Ring of Honor of that era tried to show some respect to professional wrestling. Sure, we had some wacky stuff. Sure, we had the flippy dippy do… was coming into fashion but, you know, the flippy dippy do was going on with Édouard Carpentier too.
Ring of Honor, there was some good pro wrestling going on in that segment of it but right now, Ring of Honor it’s like no one cares at all. I don’t care how much money Tony Khan has. It’s not being treated very well.”
Many fans since Tony Khan took over ROH has said similar things to what Silkin has stated here. Saying is no hype for the weekly shows and very little for the pay-per-views. How having it locked behind Honor Club limits the viewership of the product and how it just feels like a nostalgia thing to add to the five-year-old AEW.
