January 12, 2020Ring of Honor gave Marty Scurll the keys to the kingdom to stay.
Back in November Marty Scurll’s contract with Ring of Honor expired and it was reported he had multiple offers on the table. Every major promotion was interested in him and many felt he would end up in AEW. Some felt there was a slight chance he goes to WWE, but many did not think he would stay in Ring of Honor.
We then started hearing that Marty is working more with ROH, he had not signed a new deal but agreed to dates for the next four months. Back in December Scurll showed up at the NWA Into The Fire pay-per-view seemingly wanting a shot at the NWA Title. Time went on and we heard more and more that Scurll could stay with ROH, he had been offered the best deal anyone has ever been offered by ROH and now we know what that is.
According to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Johnson reports that Scurll has in fact signed a new deal with Ring of Honor. It is unclear how long the deal is for but most of their new contracts are multi-year deals. Now here is the kicker in all of this.
Johnson would go on to report that not only is Scurll staying with the company, but he is also taking the lead booker role backstage. Yes, you read that right, Mary Scurll is now the lead booker in charge of creative in Ring of Honor. The former lead booker Delirious will still remain with the company in a creative role working alongside and in conjunction with Scurll. It was said that as far as last night’s show in Atlanta, Scurll was heavily involved in all aspects of the event behind the scenes. It was also said that the upcoming free show on February 9th in Baltimore was Scurll’s idea.
Along with staying with Ring of Honor, Scurll’s new contract will also allow him to work for the NWA. We saw that go into effect last night when NWA World Champion Nick Aldis appear on the show attacking Scurll’s stablemate Flip Gordon.
