Big Update On Ricky Starks & When It Could Expire

Ricky Starks still has months left with AEW.

We have not seen Ricky Starks on AEW television since March and over the last eight months have heard him say he does not know why he is not being used. He had reiterated multiple times that he is cleared and not injured. He is just not being used by AEW and does not know why not. As far as his status with the company, we now have new info on his contract status with the company.

According to a new report from Fightful, they report that Ricky Starks is still under contract with AEW. He has not been factored much into pitches or creative since the last we saw him in March.  Contract wise it seems that his deal runs through the spring of 2025. The report notes how Starks had an option year on his contract and the option was picked up in the spring of 2024. One interesting note is that when he thought his deal was up earlier this year and before the option was picked up, Starks was hoping to test the open market.

Fightful Select learned via numerous AEW sources that AEW had an option year in the spring of 2024 in which they picked up. This extends Ricky Starks’ stay into the spring or summer of 2025. Those that we spoke to said that prior to the option being picked up, he was hoping to test the open market.

In a new interview that was released today with Chris Van Vilet, he was asked if he will wrestle another match for AEW and he stated that he doesn’t know. He hopes he can get back in the ring for AEW but right now he just does not know what is really going on. Starks called this experience of not being used while in his prime a “mind f*ck”. He noted how he does not like sitting at home not doing anything and just want to get out there and back in the ring.
