AEW Reportedly Had A Date & Plan In Place For Marty Scurll’s Debut

Looks like AEW thought Marty Scurll was coming in.

Back in November Marty Scurll became a free agent and it was said that he had multiple offers on the table. Scurll as a free agent continued to work with Ring Of Honor and even showed up at the last NWA pay-per-view. We then learned last week that Scurll would be staying with Ring Of Honor. Many thought he would have gone to AEW and it looks like they thought that as well.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer reports that AEW had a plan in place for Scurll’s possible debut with the company and a date picked out for when it would happen.

Scurll had been the first choice to be the leader of the Dark Order and AEW for the 12/18 show in Corpus Christi with the heavily criticized beatdown, there was an idea for the show to end with the Scurll reveal, until ROH made Scurll such a great offer to stay.

This just shows that the powers that be at All Elite Wrestling were under the impression that Scurll was a lock for signing with the company. Another thing you have to look at is, was the assumption of Scurll coming in and possibly being their leader the reason they were pushing the Dark Order so hard on TV. Now with Curll staying with Ring Of Honor, could that be why their presence has been shifted back to just brief video packages now.

With Scurll no longer possible as the lead the question is now who in the company, or who could they sign to bring in as their leader? Many people are pointing fingers as Matt hardy coming in as Woken Matt Hardy and being their leader. Hardy contract with WWE expires in March.
