The first AEW/New Japan joint show could be coming.

For as long as we can remember we have seen big supershows in wrestling where multiple companies come together to run one show. Some of the most talked-about ones would be the WCW/New Japan Supershow known as Starrcade in Tokyo Done in 1991. Also back in 2019 Ring of Honor and New Japan came together for the G1 Supercard event. Now it looks like New Japan has another supershow in the works.

According to Voices of Wrestling’s Super J-Cast, they noted on their show that All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling are working on putting together a supershow in the United States. They state that the show itself is slated to take place on Thursday, June 23rd. The show would be held at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.

Dave Meltzer also talked about this on Sunday Night’s Main Event and noted how when asked, AEW did not deny the rumors.

“I heard the rumors of a New Japan/AEW show and the only thing I can say is I asked and it wasn’t denied. It wasn’t confirmed and they’re not going to confirm to me the surprise. So, to me that leaves that one on the table as a potential surprise because if they are not doing that show, I believe I would have been told ‘we’re not doing that show.’ So, I think there’s smoke to that fire.”

This show will garner a lot of interest from fans just like G1 Supercard did back in 2019 but the most interesting this is the show rumored to be taking place on a Thursday night. The Cubs do not have any home games that week at all past Sunday so this week would make sense with them being able to get in their ahead of time to set things up and run the show on Thursday. Also the show taking place in Chicago makes sense for AEW as they have clearly noted how the city of Chicago is one of their homes.

If we do hear anything else regarding this rumored AEW/New Japan supershow, we will have it here and on the PWUnlimited YouTube Channel.
