𝙍𝙀𝙋𝙊𝙍𝙏: AEW Looking To Run Smaller Building
November 18, 2024Logistics need to be worked out to move to smaller buildings.
Since AEW started back in 2019 they wanted to feel like a true competitor to WWE and that meant running large venues just like WWE does. Having the big stage for your shows and trying to fill up the bigger arena in the city they are going to for a while was not an issue. Yet over time, fewer and fewer people are going to AEW shows and in turn, these larger buildings sound empty when they have less than 2,500-3,000 fans in attendance. Now it looks like they are working on a change.
According to Bryan Alvarez on Observer Radio, he noted that AEW is looking into running smaller buildings in the future. The issue with doing so is that the current stage setup and lighting rig they have are too large for smaller buildings. Before they can easily run the smaller venues they have to work on putting together specifically a smaller lighting rig that can be installed and held in these smaller sized places.
“Well apparently, there actually was a logistical reason why they were running a lot of larger buildings and it had to do with the set. In particular the lighting rig. There was something they had in their set, that was basically too large and heavy to get into smaller buildings. So they have been working on re-tooling it, so they can actually get their set into smaller buildings.”
Now not all venues they go to would need their own stage or lighting rig so finding places like that would be a plus. We saw that when they had their six-week residency at the Arlington ESPORTS Arena this past summer. That venue already has its out set up for events and AEW took advantage of the arena already being set up for shows of that nature. Yet for most buildings they would run, they will have to figure out a universal setup that is not too large nor too heavy for certain venues.
If we do hear anything further on AEW looking at running smaller buildings, we will have it here and on the PWUnlimited YouTube Channel.
