Absent WWE Superstar Has First Match Since October At NXT Live Event
January 18, 2020Tonight at an NXT live event in Melbourne, FL Mike Kanellis appeared as a surprise to the live crowd. Kanellis teamed with Tony Nese to take on and defeat Nick Ogarelli & Mohamed.
This was Kanellis’ first match since he went public with asking for his release. This was also his first match since he took on Chad Gable on the October 14th Smackdown. Back in November Kanellis took to social media to state that he wanted his release from WWE. He noted how he wants the opportunity to work more and in WWE he is not used enough.

It is unknown if Kanellis has been placed on the NXT brand full-time or if this is just a one-off. Kanellis did work a number of matches on 205 Live in 2019 and with the Cruiserweight division now part of NXT this would make sense as to why Kanellis may not be working on the NXT brand. If we do hear anything further on Kanellis’ status we will keep you posted.
